In this thread, post one post timelines or vignettes of election what-ifs!

...Welcome to ABC 2000: The Vote! The closest election in a generation is over...

... This is Peter Jennings and polls have closed nationwide, either way, History will be made and tonight we will see who will occupy the White House at the turn of the century!

Senator John F. Kennedy Jr! Or...

Vice-President Julie Nixon!

...After eight years of President Bob Dole, will America have its first female President and first daughter of a former President. Or will JFK Jr return the Kennedy dynasty to the White House and become the youngest President in history!

This epic rematch of 1960 is about to begin...

7:00pm est

7:59pm est

9:00pm est

Kennedy: 208

Nixon: 130

...And the race, expected to be close, is becoming more and more decisive. With Kennedy roaring ahead with crucial victories in Wisconsin, Florida and Michigan, it is becoming more and more likely Kennedy will win the election by the time the western states come in, and it may be Nixon's home state that puts Senator Kennedy over the top...

Nixon Campaign HQ: 9:07pm est

...Madam Vice-President, it may uh... time to prepare a concession speech...

Quote from: Julie Nixon
Make it quick, these bastards won't have Julie Nixon to kick around any more.

...Yes Mrs. Nixon....

...I want to give the speech, and get the hell out of there...

10:00pm est

Kennedy: 213

Nixon: 173

...Hello, this is Senator Kennedy speaking...

...Congratulations Mr. President-Elect...

...It was a- good campaign Madam Vice-President...

...I offer my full cooperation on the transition, make our country proud...

...This is Peter Jennings from the ABC decision desk at at the top of the hour, with BREAKING NEWS...

...Sources are reporting that Vice-President Nixon has called Senator Kennedy to concede the race! If this is true, then Senator Kennedy has been elected the 43rd President of the United States...

At 10:29 est, Vice-President Nixon departed from the Hilton San Fransisco to address her supporters at Levi's Stadiums...

...Hit the gas, Jerry...

...Yes Madam Vice-President...

...[Sigh] That's as far as I'll ever get...

...Do you ever think of death, Nixon? I mean your legacy...

...That doesn't matter, I'll never follow in my father's footsteps, but history will judge-

[PHONE RINGING]

...Hello, VP Nixon speaking...

...Vice-President, the vote in Florida is uh- closer than we expect. The election may not be over...

10:43est

...We have breaking news! We, at the ABC News decision desk can report that we are retracting the call in Florida for Senator Kennedy, repeat we are retracting the call in Florida for Senator Kennedy. Florida is too close to call...

...And with that and calls in Arkansas and Missouri, we can now report Nixon is at 201 EV and Kennedy is at 188 EV. At the 11th hour, Nixon has surged back into the lead!

...Hello, [laughs], this is President-Elect Kennedy speaking...

...Senator Kennedy, I am calling to inform you that I am retracting my concession.

Vice-President Kennedy's motorcade had immediately turned around and returned to the hotel, to await the results of the Pacific states, and the tossups, which could hand Nixon the presidency.

All the news networks reported at around 10:55pm est, shortly before polls closed on the west coast, that Nixon had retracted her concession. The life was sucked out of the estatic Democratic victory parties, and the somber GOP voters suddenly had new hope and turned around, heading to the polls in record numbers...

The most close, tense and dramatic election in American history had gotten a whole lot more exiciting...

11:00pm est

Kennedy HQ

...goddamnit Ted, I thought we had won...

...Easy there junior, the returns from Nixon's home state look good, we can make it...

Nixon HQ

...My god, I'm actually gonna do it. I'll make you proud daddy, I promise...

ABC NEWS STUDIO

...My head's in a turn I'll tell you, the networks are rushing around like headless chickens. The states are swinging back and forth. We at the ABC Decision Desk don't even now what's happening. 2000 is certainly the strangest election I have witnessed in my lifetime.

But I'll tell you, it certainly makes for good television...

Quote from: Peter Jennings
History has been made, and at 3:37am est, we can now project the state of Florida and the Presidency has gone to...

The End! Wink
